Many people assume service dogs spend their days following commands because they have to. One enthusiastic black Labrador Retriever named Paola just proved the opposite. A viral video shared by Instagram creator @teamellieandpaola captured the service dog’s pure excitement when her owner introduced a brand-new training challenge. Instead of looking reluctant, Paola could barely contain herself, pacing around the apartment with a toy in her mouth while her tail wagged nonstop.

This clip quickly won over viewers, who couldn’t get enough of the dog’s joyful reaction to work. According to the video’s caption, Paola’s owner decided to teach her a new task after noticing that the service dog seemed bored and unhappy because she didn’t have enough work to do.

The new assignment was learning how to open the refrigerator and bring back a drink. As the training session began, Paola trotted around the apartment with obvious enthusiasm. The text shown throughout the video explained the situation. “How excited my service dog gets when I start teaching her a new task,” one overlay read.

Partway through the training session, Paola’s owner paused briefly to set something up. When the owner turned back around, Paola was already bouncing with excitement. “The wiggles had started,” another caption joked. By the end of the video, one final message summed up the moment perfectly: “Service dogs LOVE to work!!!”

In the caption, Paola’s owner addressed a common misconception about service dogs. Many people believe service dogs do not enjoy their work and only do it because they are trained to. However, the owner said that it is not usually the case.

According to the caption, service dogs spend years in training and can leave the program if they do not enjoy the work. Dogs that complete the training often like having a job and actively choose to take part in it. Paola’s owner also revealed that the Labrador becomes noticeably unhappy when she goes too long without having tasks to perform.
