Most dogs treat a squirrel sighting like a high-stakes action movie, but Chili prefers a more diplomatic approach. Gailin, the mom behind @goldenchilidog, says her pup is actually obsessed with watching squirrels on Dog TV.

Usually, he only gets a real-life view of them in the city, but a recent trip changed everything. Since these specific squirrels were raised by humans, Chili finally got his chance to host a backyard meet-and-greet. A new video shows the Golden Retriever doing the impossible: staying completely still while his “prey” grabs a snack.

The clip starts with Chili standing in front of the glass door, watching a squirrel scurry across the patio. You would expect a lot of barking or frantic pawing, but this Golden is surprisingly polite.

He just watches with a soft look on his face as the squirrel edges closer. Even when the door is left ajar, Chili does not lunge. He simply pokes his head out to watch the squirrel claim a peanut. It is a level of self-control that most dog owners can only dream of.

As the video continues, things get even more daring. Gailin’s friends entice the squirrels with more peanuts, eventually placing them right in front of Chili’s face (through the door, of course). The squirrels are nervous at first, but they eventually realize this “gentle giant” is not a threat.

One by one, they dart in to grab their treats, while Chili just stands there with a smile. Gailin called it “the most wholesome thing” she has ever seen, especially since most dogs would have broken the door down. People in the comments are losing it over how chill he is, with one person calling him a “precious soul.”

It makes sense that he is this relaxed, considering he spends his days enjoying the NJ lake life. Seeing him share his space so peacefully shows off the famous breed’s temperament. While some dogs live for the chase, Chili seems happy just being part of the pack. Even if that pack has fluffy tails and a love for peanuts.
